Celebrating our 10th Anniversary!

A message from our owner …

Wow! I can’t believe it has been 10 years since the beginning of this journey. For those that don’t know, this was never my plan. I never aspired to own my own business. I was content working for someone else and letting them carry the burden of running a company, but that wasn’t God’s plan.

However, back in February 2012, God revealed His plans for me. Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” After a week of solid prayer, God opened all the doors He wanted me to walk through and closed all the ones He did not. I left my current job to start a new business – His business. My goal? Make enough to support my family and enjoy my work. I had no idea what God’s goal was for His business.

Within a month, TBD had enough business to bring on our first employee, Meg. Six months later, Angie joined us. By the second year, we had four people and moved into our first office here in Perimeter Park. It was a great space, we had a great TBD team, awesome clients, and I was satisfied with where we were. However, this was not the end of God’s plan.

By the time we were going to renew our lease after 5 years, we had filled up the office and now had 10 people on the TBD team. We debated about expanding or relocating, but ultimately renewed in place. This was certainly God’s plan as a year and a half later, COVID hit.  We were fortunate that we were not just exclusive corporate interior designers, but thanks to Duke Realty, we had continued and expanded our industrial portfolio. In addition, we had been working in the healthcare industry. God had strategically positioned us so we didn’t have to reduce hours or pay, nor lay off any of our full-time employees. He took care of us and our families to ensure we all had steady work.

In the last year as we have been coming out of the pandemic, we have seen tremendous growth. Again, not my plans but His. In the past year, we have added six employees to our team, many with 20+ years of experience in this industry locally. The hiring has not come in my timing, but in His and by being patient, we have been able to get the perfect additions to our team.

So, where are we going from here? What are our 5-year projections and targets? Mine is serving our clients well and providing them with a continued level of service like we have for the past decade. From there, only God knows. I have learned these past 10 years that His plans are far greater than mine.

Today, I just want to say thank you! To our TBD family, Meg, Angie, Jeremy, Jeff, Jen, Tricia Sleeter, Cassie, Alison, Kristen, Rachel, Lori, Sarah, Tricia Murray, Whitney and Vitaliia, thank you for serving our clients well and helping our company grow. To our clients, colleagues and friends, thank you for being part of God’s plan for our company. And especially to my husband, Jeremy, who was the one who supported me through it all. He was actually the one that submitted our initial paperwork and picked up our code books. He quit his job to start working for the company and tolerates me well, both at home and at work. I couldn’t ask for a better person to be by my side. Thank you!
