TBD Volunteer Service Day
TBD joined other members of the Morrisville Chamber of Commerce for their annual Service Day at the Goodwill Community Foundation (GCF), at their Chin Page Road location in Durham North Carolina. This GCF location has two functions first as a donation distribution center for GCF stores in the Triangle and second as the GCF Farm.
The TBD team outfitted in our jeans formed two teams from its staff; the first team assisted in sorting jewelry donations (including necklaces, bracelets and earrings on to cardboard packaging to insure safe transportation) which would then be placed for sale within their Employment Program Centers and in turn create revenue for local programs and a second team harvested produce at the GCF Farm for distribution to families.
Tucked off a side road just yards from an office park, we were amazed at the size of GCF operations, as well as its professional and passionate staff. They informed us of the GCF Farm with the assistance of volunteers completes the seeding, planting, cultivating and harvesting in both greenhouses and fields over 112,00 pounds of fresh produce to the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina annually.
The second team of TBD staff outfitted in work boots and hats helped with the harvesting of collards in the fields during a morning of mist and worked up an ample appetite. Fortunately, after a morning of volunteering we were invited to join other Morrisville Chamber business members for lunch at Travinia Italian Kitchen in Morrisville to refuel after a satisfying day of community service and team building.
